Creativity in Vrouw Jannestraat

Vrouw Jannestraat is located in the Agnesiebuurt, close to the center of the city.

Painted barrels are common street decoration in the Agnesiebuurt.

In this neighborhood lots of creativity can be found, both in the streets, the people at home, as in the many companies and institutions that are here.

Art, sticker-art and architecture at Vasteland

This wall relief is made by Frans Tuinstra in 1956. Above the main entrance of the Maastorenflat is another art piece of him. In 1956 the Maastorenflat was the highest residential building in Holland.

From Overschie to Schiebroek: Doenkade

Doenkade is a road on the north side of the Rotterdam The Hague airport. It runs in a polder landscape and connects the districts Overschie and Schiebroek together.

These photos I had to do in color. A row giant flower pots in many colors at the edge of the Schiebroekse Park.

Along the river: Boompjes

The Boompjes is a street along the 'Nieuwe Maas' river, which runs through the city and therefor splits the city two. The street is very popular among joggers, walkers and tourists because from here you have a great view at the river and the buildings. But there is more to see... In b&w again, enjoy!

In Holland the war took 5 years, from 1940 to 1945.

About writers and criminals: the Van Lennepstraat

The street is named after Jacob van Lennep, a politician and writer from Amsterdam who lived in the 19th century. The street is located in the Spangen district (West Rotterdam). It used to be a notorious district in the 80's because of criminality, drug using and prostitution. After lots of investments, projects, renovations, etc. Spangen is doing much better.

Slaak

Slaak is a street in the center of Rotterdam. If I am correctly it is one of the streets that are filled with the debris of the bombing.

The Slaak Huys (Slaak House) is a major reconstruction monument in the center of Rotterdam, and housed different users over the years. In April 2010, The Slaak Huys registered as a national monument by the National Office of Cultural Heritage of

Schepenstraat

The Schepenstraat is located in the beautiful district Blijdorp in the north of Rotterdam. The area around the Statensingel is one of the spots that give the district a green character.

This one really made me laugh. A portable toilet cabin with Van Gogh's "Sunflowers" on it.

In black & white: Rosestraat and 2e Rosestraat

Today I tried something different: I used b&w pictures. I hope you'll like it.

Also I visited both streets because they're extended to each other anyway.

Following pictures show the south side of the Rosestraat and 2e Rosestraat.

Probably children wrote this with street chalk.

Hoogstraat: one of the oldest streets in Rotterdam

The Hoogstraat runs from the Oostplein in a straight line to the Coolsingel. Until 1920 the town hall was located at the Hoogstraat.

Seen from the Hoogstraat; another new building rises in Rotterdam. It seems Rotterdam is never finished.

The Hof van Zuid is a garden, between the Tax Office and the Court. It is a public place, but because it is only accessible from a building, the Hof van Zuid is not open 24 hours a day.

Resurrected after the war: Goudsesingel

The Goudsesingel is an old, now filled, girth in Rotterdam.

The history of the Goudsesingel goes back to about 1360 when it was dug as Goudse Vest. The Gouda Vest was filled up between 1886 and 1905. After the damping Goudsesingel got its current name.

Until World War II a market was held weekly at the Goudsesingel. Slums located between Goudsesingel and Hoogstraat. Eventually all the

The IJselmondse plein is actually a highway roundabout. Underneath is a bicycle path. The IJselmondse plein is not on my list and also Google maps doesn't show it.

The Flying Dutchmanstraat is named after a legendary ghost ship. Wikipedia about the Flying Dutchman.

Historical Charloisse Lagedijk

In the 13th century Charlois was a polder. The Charloisse Lagedijk was a major dike, because it connected the Dorpsweg and the Dordtsestraatweg (two other major streets in the south of Rotterdam) with each other.

On both sides of the Charloisse Lagedijk is a lot of green. Which make it a perfect place for a walk or a run.

The Boterdorpse Verlaat is a lock with miter gates between the Rotte and the Strekvaart in the Bergse Plassen in the municipality of Rotterdam. The waterway was used flushing ships malt waste from Schiedam but nowadays even for pleasure no longer important.

Schiedamseweg

The Schiedamseweg was built in 1910 and is the connection of Delfshaven to Schiedam. The Schiedamseweg was constructed as wide promenade and central axis of the district Bospolder / Tussendijken. On 31 March 1943, Rotterdam-West suffered a bombardment mistake. The western half of the Schiedamseweg is thereby destroyed. In the fifties, the district was rebuilt.

Prinsemolenpad: nature in town

The Prinsemolenpad (Prince mill path) lies next to the Bergse Voorplas. A piece of nature between the districts Hilligersberg-Schiebroek and Terbregge, in the north of Rotterdam. The lake is mainly used for recreational purposes. There are several sailing clubs and scout associations.

It is a nice area for a quiet walk, to escape the noise of the city.

Art in the Poortstraat

First I went to the Plaswijcklaan, but besides nice houses there was nothing in or at the street to take a picture of.

So I went on to the next on my list: the Poortstraat. This is a small street close to Rotterdam Central Station.

From blog to blog: a package from http://sleepwalkingintokyo.wordpress.com

Lately it is really cold and snowy in Rotterdam. Also I worked a lot the last few days and I recently bruised my ankle. So that's why I didn't got the chance to visit some streets in Rotterdam.

So something totally different:
For at least a year I follow this blog called Sleepwalkingintokyo. The blog is hosted by MK, who travels regularly in Asian countries and makes beautiful pictures of the
